And I truly resonate with what you wrote here, about your story being written from a place of darkness and a lack of joy, rather than some ivory tower of joy. Thanks for this note, Bonita! I tried to make sure that I humanized joy as much as I divinized it in the book. I feel my longing for joy more often than joy itself, and in realizing that, I came to see the longing (even the struggle) as a kind of blessedness.
